Can I use a safety pin to perforate a leather motorcycle suit?
I found a Kushitani suit on ebay for $150.00 and got it, rode around in it, and it fits me perfectly. It is an older style suit and doesn't have the small micro perforations that is seen on almost all suits today. It gets a bit hot underneath and I was looking around for a leather punch but even the smallest size is a bit bigger than I anticipated. Can I use a pin or safety pin and safely perforate the leather?
A pin won't leave a hole large enough for air to pass through. A punch would be ideal, if you could find the right size. Try a store that specializes in woodworking tools. Google "Lee Valley Tools" in Canada. As a last resort, you could use a drill, but you would have to be careful that it doesn't snag the leather and rip it up. To be effective, you're going to have to make an awful lot of holes!
Personally, I would keep that suit for cooler weather and buy a separate, perforated suit for hot days. Over the years, I have invested in lots of different pants and jackets to suit all riding conditions. (the more outfits you have, the longer they last!)
