How safe is Garment District area in New York? (booked a hotel there)?

I've got a booking there, I'm staying with family and I took it cuz of the price and proximity to main attractions. Any idea? My hotel is Wyndham Garden Hotel Times Square South.

I walk past that hotel every week when I visit my parents who live there. I used to live there for over 20 years. I don't expect you to have any problems--there is an SRO type of hotel on the same block, and several small independent peformance theaters, even a steak house. But if you do, the police department's parking lot is RIGHT across the street. Just walk to 35th Street for the actual entrance to the precinct.

20, 25 years ago the area was a cr_p hole. It was horrible. But the place is considerably cleaned up (for New York) and is much safer than in the past.

The street itself gets a fair amount of traffic during the daytime, but is pretty quiet traffic wise during the weekend. Because it's the garment district, it is a commercial area and I hope they have soundproof windows, because the garbage trucks pick up in the wee hours of the morning. Every day.

Is it a dangerous place? No. Would I walk out at night as an unaccompanied woman dressed to impress? No. It's just common sense, don't go some place you aren't familiar with alone. Anytime I hear of violent crimes happening, it's because the woman is alone and riding the subway at 2 a.m.

Use common sense and you'll be fine.

Apply LIKE statement to entire table and compare to another table in mySQL?

I have two tables that I want to compare on partial matches using LIKE.

The solution does not need the like as in mySQL the locate function will help you:

select t.city
from table2 t
where city not in

But, I think there is a design problem in your table1: normally relational database are made for preventing data redundancy.
Because you have already a city table (table2) you need a "Type" (or another name you like) table which will contains two columns ID and name

ID, name
1, Accomodation
2, Hotels
3, Flat
and so on

After that if your table2 have also an primary key id, you will have just a middle table which contains id's of both, the type and the city, (and perhaps you can put some description text for that, except city name or type name)

I don't know what is your level of database design but i give a link which explain what is database normalisation and will explain
more clearly the usage of an intermediate table for many-to-many relationship.
