Need help with planning short visit to New York...?

A friend recently moved to Brooklyn and I am going for a visit soon. Because of his roomates we will probably stay at a hotel instead of his flat. He has not really had a chance to look around New York yet since he has only been there a few months. I will be there between 4-7 days. Basically we want to do all of the touristy stuff like visit Ellis Island, take a NYC tour, Time Square etc etc.

Please give me some advise on how we can do this the most economically. I am looking for either a cheap but decent hotel package that offers discounts to these, or a chepa city pass, or some online coupons etc. Also I don't know if there are any hotels in Brooklyn that anyone would recommend. Or would it be more convenient to stay in a differnet location. Any advice will be helpful! Thnx!

It's all about finding the right hotels for you. http://www.gekko.com profiles you before selecting the places that are best suited to your needs. They also have a budget selection tool to allow you to really fine tune your search.
