New York New York Vacation

First time in Las Vegas? Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world - there's no other place like it. But if you've never been there before, you could end up missing the best Vegas has to offer or worse - spending more money than you'd planned.

If you're booking your first Las Vegas vacation, the following tips will save you time, money and frustration.

Vacation Tip #1: Book Your Vegas Package Early

Try to make your reservations and ticket purchases at least 21 days before your trip. Some fares require an advance purchase of 3, 7, 14, or 21 days, while others may require no advance purchase at all.

Also, many Las Vegas hotels give you a discount incentive for booking your vacation early. As more people book the hotel rooms, there are less spots available and prices can rise.

Vacation Tip #2: Bring High Quality Running Shoes

If you're going to be exploring the gorgeous hotels and various attractions on the Las Vegas strip - make sure you take high quality, well-fitting running shoes. Most of the surfaces you'll be walking on are either concrete or stone.

While it's lovely to stroll along the cobblestone streets of the Venetian or the Paris hotels - if you're in shoes that don't give you adequate cushioning you'll be in pain by the end of the day. And after 3 days, forget about it.

Vacation Tip #3: If It's Your First Time In Vegas Try To Stay On Or Near The Las Vegas Strip

The Las Vegas strip is the best place to be - especially if it's your first time in Las Vegas. Enjoy the fountains of the Bellagio, see the lion habitat at the MGM Grande, watch the pirate show at the Treasure Island, view the white tigers at the Mirage.

When you're on the Las Vegas strip most of the attractions and hotels are within walking distance so you don't need to rent a car. Staying at one of the hotels on the strip will ensure you see most of the main attractions in Vegas.

Some hotels on the Las Vegas strip are the Bellagio, MGM Grande, Mirage, Ceasar's Palace, Aladdin, Circus Circus, Treasure Island, Imperial Palace, Flamingo, New York New York, Bally's and the Paris Hotel.

Vacation Tip #4: Be Prepared To Eat

Las Vegas offers some of the BEST buffets and restaurants in the world. Two of the most popular buffets in Las Vegas are the Buffet at the Bellagio and the Spice Market Buffet at the Aladdin. They are a must try!

The buffets offer a huge selection (so everyone in the family is happy)at mid-priced rates (depending on where you go). The food quality is extremely high so forego your diet and enjoy! After all, you're on vacation.

Vacation Tip #5: You Don't Have To Spend A Bundle On Entertainment

While some of the shows in Las Vegas can be expensive, there are lots of things to do (especially with your family) that are low cost or absolutely free. Some freebies include:

Lion habitat at the MGM Grande

White tigers at the Mirage

Fountain display in front of the Bellagio

M&M's Store near New York, New York hotel (free M&M's movie)

Pirate Show at Treasure Island

Rain Storm at the Dessert Passage next to the Aladdin

Circus Acts at Circus Circus

Human Statues at the Venetian

Various specialty displays and gardens inside different hotels - depending on the time of year

And they're always adding more!

So those are 5 general tips for Vegas first-time vacationers. The can save you time, money and frustration (and hopefully sore feet). There's no other place like Las Vegas - it's like a giant playground for adults and kids. Regardless of what you choose to do, you'll never forget your first time in Vegas!

New York Vacation on low budget?

I am planning to go to New York city for spring break. I know it would be a little chilli but I'm from Chicago so shouldn't be a problem for me. now I need to know if it is better to get there on a plane or Amtrak? ( as being close to the public transportation) and anyone knows any hostel or cheap hotel? and lastly, what is the best way to travel arround? bus? train? or rental car?

There are three possible answers to this question.

1. Place to stay: New York City has thousands of hostels to choose from, everything from the YMCA/YWCA to ordinary hostels, some very well known. Two hostels that I know of are the American Youth Hostels, Inc, on the Upper West Side and the YMCA Vanderbilt Center in Midtown. I've included there web address at the bottom of this post, along with several other links to Hostels in Manhattan.

2. Transportation to and from New York: Since you're coming from The Windy City, my best bet will be take Amtrak into Penn Station, New York. They may have discounts for students.

Also Greyhound bus, which always offers discount to students serves New York City, with a stop at the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Many low budget airlines travels between New York and Chicago, however they will land at airport far away from the city. You may want to try JetBlue, they have a hub in New York and JFK Airport. Check with them to see if they offer discounts to students.

3. Transportation while in New York: Since you going to be in New York there is no need to rent a car. NYC Transit, like Chicago's CTA, operates both the buses and subway systems. The fare on both the buses and subway are $2 a ride, but if you're in town for a week, you can buy a 7-days unlimited MetroCard, which is a fare card similar to the one in Chicago, for $24 and take as many rides as you want on the subway and bus.

I hope this information was very helpful. I need any travel direction while in town, just drop me a line at native.newyorker@hotmail.com.

Good luck and happy travels.

New York Hotel Package
Need help with planning short visit to New York...?

A friend recently moved to Brooklyn and I am going for a visit soon. Because of his roomates we will probably stay at a hotel instead of his flat. He has not really had a chance to look around New York yet since he has only been there a few months. I will be there between 4-7 days. Basically we want to do all of the touristy stuff like visit Ellis Island, take a NYC tour, Time Square etc etc.

Please give me some advise on how we can do this the most economically. I am looking for either a cheap but decent hotel package that offers discounts to these, or a chepa city pass, or some online coupons etc. Also I don't know if there are any hotels in Brooklyn that anyone would recommend. Or would it be more convenient to stay in a differnet location. Any advice will be helpful! Thnx!

It's all about finding the right hotels for you. http://www.gekko.com profiles you before selecting the places that are best suited to your needs. They also have a budget selection tool to allow you to really fine tune your search.

Desempacotando New York - Episodio 02

The Hotel New York

When looking for a discount hotel, New York City offers almost too many choices. So how do you make the best decision when you have never been to the Big Apple and are unfamiliar with the city layout and the neighborhoods?

Well, there are two ways to approach this topic and I will cover both of them.

Location, Location, Location Some travel experts will tell you that location is everything and that you should chose an accommodation near the sights that you are interested in visiting. They state that you don't want to end up in a hotel across town from everything you want to do and see, because you will spend all of your time on foot and on the subway or hailing a cab.

So if this is your point of view, then the following information may help you.

If you want to be in the middle of the action, you should look for the most affordable discount hotel New York City (or Manhattan to be specific) supplies. There are hotels and hostels that offer great rates and amenities throughout this area. Deals are easy to spot (and are everywhere) on the internet.

Lower Manhattan: If you want a really low priced discount hotel New York City won't let you down for this location. You will also be near Soho, China Town, Little Italy, Wall Street, Battery Park, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and Wall Street.

Midtown Manhattan (East and West Side): The East Side of Midtown Manhattan would be a likely location for a higher priced accommodations, but don't despair a great discount hotel New York City supplies in this area is available as a hostel. If you love to shop or even window shop, this is the place for you. You can find high priced fashion and dining to match.

On the other hand, if you are interested in a more exciting night life and no sleep, try the West Side of Midtown Manhattan. Not only does it have Times Square and Broadway, it also has affordable lodging as well. If you like to walk on vacations, then this is the area for you because you can get nearly anywhere you want to go on foot.

Upper Manhattan (East and West Side): A hotel on the Upper East Side will cost you a pretty penny unless you search for a great discount hotel. New York City (fortunately) has them everywhere. This is the location of the City's finest museums. Central Park divides the East from the West and the farther you go west from the Park, the more affordable the discount hotel New York City provides.

Just a place to sleep Other travel experts will tell you that the deal is everything. Their philosophy is that only a few New York tourists spend a lot of time in their hotel rooms. This is specifically focused on those people who basically only use their hotel rooms to sleep, shower and change clothes in order to go out again.

They suggest that you then consider an accommodation that is slightly outside of the "hot spot" since transportation (fabulous subway system, taxis, private car, etc) is easily accessible and readily available most of the time 24/7. You can save a lot of money when you look for a discount hotel New York City offers in the less popular areas and uses any travel time as a sight-seeing adventure.

If you are more interested in saving money than being right in the middle of the action, keep in mind that between taxis, the subway and buses, you can get where ever you want to go in NYC. However, you will save the most money by avoiding taxis (expect late at night or for long trips). From the airport, you can take the Port Authority's Airport Express Buses (one-way costs about $12-$15 USD), it is a fast , cheap, reliable service to your hotel.

If you feel confident navigating a combination of buses and subways, you can go anywhere for just $2.00 USD by getting a MetroCard (it allows free transfers). If you plan to take 3 or more rides a day, then you should investigate all of the optional passes.

Also you should get a map of NYC, understand the basic layout of the city and the subway system BEFORE you go. With a little planning you can save a lot on your transportation costs while in the Bid Apple too.

So you might decide the location of your accommodation is the priority or you might lean toward saving money on your trip. Either way you decide to use to choose your discount hotel, New York City supplies you with a powerful tool. This helpful tool is the ratings and reviews (made by tourists) of any accommodation and absolutely should be used to guarantee a good night sleep regardless of what metropolitan district your accommodation is in.

Hotel Deals New York

A marketing plan focuses on the four Ps (Product, Promotion, Price and Place), but doesn't neglect customer retention and key partnerships. Hotel Deals New York City December All of these elements should be specific to your hotel's intended customers and the geographic area.

1) Product - Your hotel's services

For every hotel, the basic product offered is the same service - use of a bed for a night. Beyond this similarity, there are endless ways to differentiate your service. Services can include entertainment (i.e., in-room cable, on-premises nightclub), food (i.e., chocolates on a pillow to a five-star restaurant), communication (i.e., free local calls, wireless internet), and health (i.e., a pool, fitness center, spa). Consider whether unusual services will be a draw for your customers or if you are better off providing the tried and true. Whatever you choose, present the information clearly and in just enough detail so that readers understand the level and type of service provided.

2) Promotion - How to get the word out

Promotion is how you make your people aware of your hotel and its unique value proposition and convert them into guests. The promotional tools you use depends entirely on the customers you seek. Rather than thinking about how other hotels seek customers, think from the customer's point of view. How do your desired customers seek hotels? Make sure yours can be found where they are looking, whether this is in travel books, magazines, websites, or elsewhere. Remember that the most powerful type of advertising is the kind that money cannot buy - press. Consider whether a public relations strategy can help make this happen.

3) Price - The right rates for your hotel

Best">http://www.besthostfinder.info">Best Hotel Finder Click here

Your marketing plan must show where you want your pricing to fall within the market's range. The choice of price ties directly to your hotel's profitability, but also to the brand you are trying to build in the minds of customers. If you bill your hotel as extremely upscale, but price it in the middle of the pack, customers may not believe your assertions that you are the next Ritz-Carlton. Pricing is about finding the right price to both represent what your hotel is and to cover costs, leaving room for profit.

4) Place - Where customers and your services meet

Place is more than the choice of location for your hotel. "Place" in this context means distribution, and this is the choice of how customers will book hotel rooms and receive other services you provide. This can be through websites, travel agents, or a dedicated sales staff, each of which have their own cost and benefit tradeoffs. Distribution of services continues inside your hotel and involves both your staff and your means to communicate with your guests (i.e., phone systems, TV ordering, even doorknob signs).

5) Customer Retention

Most of the cost of providing service to a customer is in getting them to buy for the first time. To keep a customer returning should be significantly cheaper than getting a new one so explain your retention strategy. For example, loyalty programs provide incentives for repeat visits and customer relationship management (CRM) software can save data on the preferences and activity of individual guests to make returning more enjoyable for them.

6) Partnerships

Finally, consider how you will work with your hotel's neighbors, local government, and other stakeholders to build business. There may be potential for you to either get guests from or send guests to many local businesses, improving the experience the overall experience for those customers. Consider mentioning a few key partnerships that will pay off because of their importance to both parties. Don't stretch yourself too think by proposing to partner with every business on your street. Describe any successful legwork you have done to inquire about the possibility of making those partnerships a reality.

Party atmosphere Mirage vs New York New York?

I'm booking a trip for 3 couples in their mid 40's for early March. We have found some excellent deals for the Mirage and New York New York. This is our first trip to Vegas. The Mirage looks and sounds like a really nice property. However I've read the New York New York has a "vibe" about the place. We are looking for some variety and a nice party atmosphere right at the hotel. Any suggestions?

I prefer The Mirage for almost all possible reasons. It's a nicer hotel, has a better pool, is in a better location (closer to the action at Caesars, Venetian, Wynn, Bellagio), has better restaurants, has better shows (Love, Terry Fator and always has headliners like Jay Leno, Ray Ramono, Brad Garrett, etc.,.), has better nightlife (Jet and Revolution), their casino is always more packed and more alive.. It just has a better vibe for me.

NYNY has a cheaper feel overall. Their clubs and bars are considered more "low-brow" and attracts a crowd that you'd see in a pub at your local watering hole. Coyote Ugly, Nine Fine Irishmen, The Bar at Times Square are all places you can find in any city in the country. ROK Vegas is pretty nice, it's new and obviously has a rock theme. That's about it for being different. It's the only place you probably can't find in your local city.

The only thing I really like at NYNY is the dueling pianos.

It all depends on what vibe you're looking for. NYNY feels like home away from home. Nothing out of the ordinary or too exciting. The Mirage feels like Las Vegas. New, different, exciting. I'd stay at The Mirage 100 out of 100 times and I have stayed at both.

I can promise you guys are going to have an awesome time!! I live in Vancouver, BC--but find myself in Vegas at least twice a month for various things...not important.

I completley disagree with a few of these posts, firstly, Las Vegas is a very fun destination for people of ALL ages.

The three hotels you picked are very kid-friendly, though not my first choices, I'm sure you will have a great time.

Excalibur:
-offers three different motion rides
-very fun and appealing look to most children
-featuring a Krispy Kreme, and a video arcade...

Circus Circus:
-this is not my favourite hotel, but obviously their attraction is the indoor theme park. You can check their website online, for a virtual tour. The rides are fun, but will probably only amuse you for a day. Keep in mind, that even if you stay at another hotel, you can always work the theme park into one of your day plans

NYNY:
This is my favourite out of the three you selected.
-the red roller coaster is defiantly fun to ride!!
-they also have a pretty big arcade, you win tickets, and redeem goofy prizes

From my perspective, NYNY is not only the best hotel (in general) it is also in a very nice location. Close enough to other big attractions I'm sure you and your family are going to want to check out.

Things to Hit Up:
-the free lion exhibit at the MGM Grand (across the street from NYNY)
-the M&M Shop/Coca Cola Shop, not only do they offer some awesome photo ops, underground features an amazing arcade, with a few of the more interactive, motion rides created by mr. speilberg.
-the luxor is worth a trip, make sure you check out the criss angel mindfreak store, as well as the believe show!
-the bellagio fountains are a free exhibit that will offer fun for the entire family. They start coming on frequently after 7pm (try getting a reservation a "mon ami gabi", a desert and pastry cafe at the Paris hotel, across the street. That way you will have an un-obstructed view of the fountains.
-While you're at Paris, why not take a ride up the Eifel Tower? I've been up it a lot, and my opinion is the attraction is best viewd at night, when the lights of the strip are shining brightly!!
-The Forum shops at Caesars Palace are worth a trip, even if you're not up to a big shopping spree, the mall itself is pretty cool, featuring a light show, the statues come alive and the lasers are set up to impress
-the miracle mile shops are also fun, just a treat for the eyes!
-don't forget madame tussads wax museum at the Venetian. $15 gets you in, and you can touch all the statues, and take pictures with your favourite celebs.
-While you're at the Venetian, make sure you take a gondola ride, either inside or out...
-Across the stree there is the famous treasure island show, since you have an 11 yr old travelling with you, be warned the show has changed in the last year, beware of girls in bras and thongs...
-the secret garden at the Mirage is fun, but keep in mind, the lions featured at nocturnal, and will be asleep when the attraction is open. The dolphins do not have any shows, but if you're lucky you'll catch a training session.
-the mirage also has a free exhibit, the newly renovated volcano at the front of the hotel, erupts regularly...don't stand too close, that fire is HOT!!

As for food:
Every hotel will feature buffets (most have multiple in fact), to keep cost down, do something low key for breakfast. If you go to a buffet, you'll end p spending about $20/person, and you'll be weighed down during you're entire day.

It's always fun topick a restaurant, and let that serve as a daily attraction as well. Vegas has some of the most amazing restaurants...

My favourite:
-American Company Bistro at the Luxor, Nicky Hiltons restaurant
-AquaKnox at the Ventian, if you're into Seafood
and Social House at Treasure Island

Make sure you have a great time! Make everything count, because I promise you're first time to vegas will stick with you for the rest of your life!!

Try and take in a show if you can. Before you do, go to the Fashion Show Mall, those booths setup to annoy tourists, visit one, to receive two for one cirque du soleil tickets...

Shows you can't miss:
-Mystere at TI
-"O" at the Venetian
-"Believe" at the Luxor
-"love" at the Mirage

Shows to Skip:
-Phantom at the Opera is not worth the price imo
-Ka is the only Cirque show I'm not a huge fan of
-zumanity is the only Cirque show you will not be admitted to, it's an almost 'naked' show

Don't forget to get a picture in front of the infamous Las vegas sign...The Hard Rock Hotel is a full attraction in and of itself...go get yourself from wings!

Tell your Mom to hit up the Outlets, off the strip, defiantly worth the cab ride...

If you're trying to save money, visit the front desk of your hotel to buy a monorail pass. Every hotel on the strip is connected the the rail, and it's a fun way to get around town!!

Viva Las Vegas!!
