What's the best time of year to visit Boston and New York for vacation?

I want to visit Boston, Philadelphia and NYC on the same trip over a 10 day period. Is a rental car the best way to get around?

Don't bother with the rental car, parking is expensive and a hassle in both NY and Boston, and in both cities you can get anywhere via the subways. I would reccomend the early spring, both central park in NY and the Boston Commons are beautiful that time of year. Right behind the Boston Commons is the Boston Public garden, which is gorgeous in the springtime, and for just two dollars you can go on the swan boats, which is a nice activity with kids if you have them. Boston is vey pretty in the spring. It's my personal opinion that NYC is never pretty, but the weather is nicer here in the springtime than the summer, the heat makes everything smell terrible...
I'm a native massachusetts girl going to school in NY. And back to the transportation, there are countless ways to get from NY to Boston. At NY Penn station you can get an amtrack train into boston on the hour, acela trains are a little more expensive but faster. And for a more economical choice, the coach busses are easy, and you can pick them up and get dropped off just about anywhere.
and of course there's flying, but with all the time you spend waiting and checking in and all that crap it takes almost as long as the train, and the train is roomier and easier and cheaper.

HELP!!!! girls only!!!!! NEW YORK CITY?

Ok so im packing right now and i really am not sure what to bring. Well tomorrow were flying to new york then getting a rental car and driving to new jersey. And then a couple days later were going back to Manhattan and staying there for seven days. then were flying to toronto staying a night there and then driving to Niagara Falls and going to this big indoor water park. i know i know so long, but what in the world do i pack???? its altogether 13 days 13 nights and i Need an exact packing list. like example: 3 shirts not just bring pants. cuz when my mom used to make those lists for me when we would go on vacation and i would never forget anything, now i always forget things!!! HELP!!! easy ten points. P.S it's a 30% of percipitation.

you should bring hmm about 4 or 5 shirts repeating is kinda um ya ya no...lol and you should bring 2 pairs of pants and if u have any capris bring at least 1 or 2 pairs just in case it gets sunny at least um maybe if u have a skirt bring one of those because who nos u might go somewhere like church or somethin, um and for the Niagara Falls u should bring a swimming suit of any kind i mean it doesnt matter of course. bring pjs make sure theyre comfy. umm make sure u bring undies of course lol thts ur choice on how many tho........bring a sweater and maybe a warm jacket just in case its chilly!!:D have fun!!
