How aggressive are the gays and liberals in New York?

I was contemplating going on a family vacation to New York, but I am afraid that my children will be preyed upon by the city’s many gay residents, or that liberals will harass us. Does anyone have any tips about whether or not this city is worth it for an upper-middle class conservative Christian family to visit? We do want to see the times square and the statue of liberty, but I don’t know how much liberal scum we can handle.
